Credit Report Privacy

Everybody we encounter seems to want a copy of our credit report these days. It may seem as though anybody can get all the personal information they want about you just by getting a copy of your credit report. Although it may seem that way, your credit report privacy is protected to a certain extent. The type of information on a credit report is very personal and if it were to land in the wrong hands, could be very damaging. This includes things such as social security numbers, addresses, your birthday, work history, as well as certain events involving the courts.

Letting someone have access to your credit report is almost as good as giving them a full background check in some instances. Because of the sensitive nature of the information, the Fair Credit Reporting Act has put restrictions on who gets to use other peoples credit reports. Those who do have access are limited in how they are allowed to use your information. This may seem to you like it is not very much protection but even so, it helps keep your private information a lot safer than if there were no protection at all.
